    “g7+” Meeting in Timor-Leste ends in consensus


    The Fragile States meeting held this Thursday in Díli, concluded with the drafting of the “Statement by the g7+” by the participant countries.

    In the document where the States declared their willing less to reduce poverty, end existing conflicts and provide better conditions to the population.

    In the opening speech, the Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, started by highlighting the differences which exist between the several Countries present in the meeting and concluded with the remark that “We do, nevertheless, draw strength from the knowledge that we are not alone, that is up to us, and to no one else, to act in the defense of our peoples and also the will to decide on the ways in which the International Community can intervene in a more constructive and more sensitive to our real needs”.

    In the “Statement by the g7+”, the participants declare the need to have a more active and to play a stronger role in the aid that is provided by the development partners. Likewise, they acknowledge the need to adopt a long term vision, which is in tune with their respective realities.

    The participant Countries of the “g7+” (Burundi, Chad, Republic Democratic of Congo, Nepal, Salomon Islands, Sierra Leona, South of Sudan and Timor-Leste) expressed their satisfaction for the adopted statements, their contribution for the “Dili Declaration”.

    With "The building of Peace and the State" as a central topic, the meeting will bring together participants from 45 countries between 9th and 10th April in TImor-Leste's capital.
